Top 5 baby toys for newborn babies to 6 months 2023 UK

Baby mat

These are baby toys we’ve used the most since he was born, when buying a toy for my son I look for educational development, engagement and durability. (Lets face it babies aren’t going to play gently) Below is a list of our favourites, be sure to let me know what you think and what you would recommend.

  1. My most recent purchase from Amazon was the Leapfrog Picnic Basket baby toy, it covers a number of educational areas from shapes to sharing, music and more. As he is turning 6 months soon we are practising lots of sitting up and this have come in really handy for keeping him engaged with practise. He loves the different fruit and enjoys the light up/song feature of the basket. As a family we’ve had lots of fun playing picnic and we even took it round for his grandmother to play too! It is so hand being portable that I no longer have the panic of what toy to bring somewhere to keep him entertained.
  2. The next baby toy I would have to recommend is actually a teether these baby teethers are BPA free and have been an absolute dream for when his cheeks are flushed and mouth is sore. We wash them and sterilise them in his Nuk Steriliser and then put them in a freezeable bag. Keeping these in the freezer has proven really handy especially as he sometimes wants two before the pain has eased.
  3. The 3rd toy is one my son has hardly let go of, a comfort blanket with a sensory toy attached. The original was a gift but since then we’ve had to buy 2 more from Primark. I have found one similar on Amazon. He often holds this when he is in his pram as we are out and about, the fact we have 3 shows how well this gift went down. A bit of advice I have experienced since having puppies and dogs for more than 10 years is if they have a favourite toy or blanket buy 2 so if one is in the wash they don’t miss it and if it is getting grubby you can easily swap it with the clean one.
  4. Baby crawling crab, I’m honestly not sure at this point who enjoys it more the kittens or the baby? However it is a success in this household. The crab lights up with a disco beat and crawls around the room, it also has a sensor to detect movement so it helpfully doesn’t run you over when it is changing direction. Whenever the baby and kittens hear the music from the crab playing it’s silence in the house and you see all three turn their heads to watch the crab crawl along the floor. Right now my soon tries to shuffle after it. I am looking forward to him crawling round after it when he is ready.
  5. Fisher Price Piano Gym, We’ve had this baby toy for about 3 months and it has been so handy to have. We use it so much I know exactly what song is coming next and often sing along with it to my son. It has 3 features on the piano including look and listen, piano or animals sounds. This has been so useful in helping him overcome his hatred of tummy time. He loves to look at the light up keys on the piano and is often happily kicking along to the songs. He uses this at least once a day and has learnt to roll on it meaning he can choose to play with the hanging toys or to use the keyboard. It’s very easy to dismantle to wash and easy to clean a define must have!
