Banham Zoo is a lovely family day out, we actually went when it was raining. A good sized zoo with lots to see and do(including inside). Pram friendly walkways and lifts available, accessibility wasn’t an issue. We enjoyed walking round on a quieter day with the pram, using the rain cover and thin coats we had a good time. (I’d also recommend there sister zoo Africa Alive in Suffolk!)
Banham Zoo is a medium sized zoo it took us roughly 6 hours including the train ride, nappy changes and lunch. It was our little boys first train ride and he was so excited and happy, the rider was really friendly and gave us lots of information about the animals and enclosures.
I really enjoyed the walkways round the giraffe enclosure and as it was a rainy day the giraffes were inside the house. I think normally people wouldn’t think to go on a rainy day but it actually meant we got to be closer to the animals and less crowds.
We absolutely loved walking round the penguin enclosure and seeing them swimming underwater, the penguins have little huts around the enclosure to sleep in and it was nice seeing so many of them together and enjoying the weather.
The sea lions at Banham Zoo are something I could watch all day, we really loved seeing them swimming round and splashing about. The majority of time at the zoo we were the only people around due to the weather. It has become such a special memory for us of seeing so many animals around basically with the zoo to ourselves.
Banham zoo is definitely worth visiting -especially if you’re struggling being in the house on a rainy day! With indoor and outdoor play areas lots of food options and animal talk shows you’ll find something for everyone. I would encourage booking ahead as you get a discount booking online and it’s worth checking the opening times as they vary seasonally.
