This weekend we took Ivy my golden retriever to Holt country park, during a stunning autumnal day. On arrival you have a pay and display car park and a cafĂ© for drinks and cakes. I’ve been coming to Holt country park for a while now and it’s one of my favourite dog walks in Norfolk, I love taking the dogs here on Christmas day.
Holt Country Park is a stunning wildlife area, with 100 acres of mixed woodland it’s definitely worth exploring with the family.
Holt Country Park has several routes to explore that are marked or if you are feeling adventurous you can just choose a random path round. I always like to head to the pond and picnic area first then go through the gate to the wild horses.
We used a pushchair however it is mixed terrain, o depending on your pram you may benefit from a carrier. I would highly recommend wellington boots and a baby carrier the first time you come so you can get to know the routes.
On average I like to walk the dogs for nearly two hours here and with the many routes and off trail paths, there’s plenty of choice. Dogs off lead are welcome as long as they are kept under control as once through the gates you can be faced with cows or horses that are loose.
Holt Country Park has lots for little ones to exploring including a play area and butterfly trail!
One of the reasons it is so popular is its breathtakingly beautiful scenery. The park is one of the most beautiful places for a dog walk in Norfolk. It’s the most relaxing place and you never know what you’ll find around the corner.
The woodland has so much to offer as a child I always like picking up leaves and jumping in them as well as play hide and seek.
The magical woodland is well looked after and the team at Holt Country Park are always running family friendly events on Facebook. It’s a great day out for the family to enjoy the outside and experience the natural beauty Norfolk has to offer.
Holt is a particularly popular small town and this hidden gem is well worth a visit.
After exploring the park I’d highly recommend heading into Holt and having lunch at Byfords!
