As someone who isn’t religious, I rarely go to church; however, during December I do attend Carol services and I used to go either Christmas Day or Midnight Mass. Since moving to Norwich I haven’t explored my local church, which I decided to do today with the Angels Everywhere event.
I have always attended the Church of England, and my primary schools were COE Schools. I saw on my local Church website that they are having an Angel event and thought it would be really interesting to see.
Christ Church in New Catton, Norwich is quite a modern church. It has its own car park and it’s really clean, they have a dedicated children’s area with a section made up of crafting for little children including making an angel, colouring and books for them to read.
I left the pram just in the foyer and carried Theo around with me. Angels Everywhere has many handmade paper angels hidden around the church for you to find. Each is completely different and we had a lot of fun finding them all.
Trail Of Angels
The Trail of Angels takes you through the nativity story with QR codes to scan to watch on YouTube each section that explains the story. The videos are well done and I did a very brief version for Theo of each video to keep his attention.
I enjoyed seeing the nativity scene and walking around the church with Theo it felt very welcoming and we both enjoyed finding all the angels together and exploring the church by ourselves. Most Churches welcome visitors between certain hours each day even if they haven’t got an event on.
At the end of the trail, the church had a mini Christmas tree for you to hang an ornament and you could take an angel to give to someone.
Theo chose an angel to give his great-grandmother when we see her at Christmas.
I think it is worth looking at your local church website to see what events they have such as tree festivals, nativity plays or Christingle. I think Theo and I are going to try to go to a Christingle service on Christmas Eve if we have time. As something free to do that is aimed at little ones he undoubtedly had fun this morning.
