This afternoon I went over to my mother’s house to have some family time before the chaos of Christmas, we decided to go to the Carol service at the local church.
Keeping a baby entertained at a Carol Service
I took the pram as I wasn’t sure if he would settle or want to sit on my lap. When the service started I took him out and had him on my lap as he is teething at the moment so I knew he might fuss. I brought with me his bee blanket so he had something to chew on and his sensory book which is a picture book he can play with as it crinkles and has a squeaker in it.
It’s a small village church but it is heated well so I could take off his coat and get him comfy, they had readings during the service as well as briefly recounting the birth of Jesus. I’m not religious but I do like to go to churches during December and I enjoy singing the different carols.
We ended on 12 Days of Christmas which is one of my favorite songs to sing at Christmas. After the service you could stay and have mulled wine with a mince pie, it was nice mingling with people in the village where I grew up.
I will probably miss church on Christmas day due to Theo’s nap times so it was nice to attend with my side of the family as something Christmas-related to do together.
How is everyone feeling about Christmas? I know it can be a very stressful time of year. I have mixed feelings about it, a lack of control never helps me feel settled however I am still excited for Theo’s first Christmas!
When Theo is older I look forward to taking him to nativity plays and the children’s church services that are available for little ones. If you’re in Norwich you should check out the Angel festival in the local churches.
