As it’s my son’s first Christmas I decided to do some salt dough baking, as it was my first time making it I just did several foot prints. I plan on giving these to his grandparents from my son for Christmas!
The recipe:
- 250g plain flour
- 125g salt I only had sea salt in the cupboard but it states table salt
- 125ml water.
You can bake for 3 hours or until they are golden and solid.
I found inspiration on TikTok to do a few in a Christmas theme and they came out well, you could also try Halloween theme with little ghosts. It was a fun family activity as we all painted them together including my son. I held the paintbrush in his hand and he then could press it on the cooked dough. He got very excited with holding the paintbrush and he found it to be a really fun activity.
In the end I made 4 foot prints and actually did both the cats paw prints to hang on our own tree this year. I also plan to do my dogs paws.
I highly recommend pressing firmly as if it is only a soft press they don’t come out as well. For the paint I actually just used left over acrylic paint from paint by numbers sets. I would recommend using thick acrylic paint to decorate them and dusting off any leftover flour before painting.
Salt dough is such good fun for ornaments you can actually do this for any occasion. I had really good fun painting the snowman and actually can wait to maybe do a few ghosts for Halloween.
